Sat. Oct. 12 through Sat. Oct. 19, 2024

Join us for the third annual Foothills Plein Air Festival, a week-long celebration highlighting the breathtaking natural landscapes of the Yadkin Valley.

Day 1 of the festival coincides with the Reevestock Music Festival on Saturday, October 12th. As festivities kick off, browse through a vendor tent featuring miniature works by participating plein air artists. Additionally, artists receive complimentary tickets to the Reevestock Music Festival, offering an opportunity to paint lively crowd scenes amidst the vibrant music. Drawing around 2,000 attendees annually, the Reevestock Music Festival boasts an eclectic mix of Folk, Americana, Southern Rock, and Newgrass.

Day 2 offers morning and afternoon workshops tailored for beginner to intermediate plein air artists. For those not participating, the day allows freedom to explore and paint at their leisure.

Day 3, known as Mountain Monday, invites artists to capture the majestic mountain vistas at Pilot Mountain & Stone Mountain State Parks.

Day 4, dubbed History Tuesday, encourages artists to paint at historical sites such as Horne Creek Farm, Historic Rockford, Kapp’s Mill, and the Edwards-Franklin House.

Day 5, celebrates Waterfall Wednesday, inspiring artists to paint at scenic waterfall locations like Carter Falls, Stone Mountain Falls, and Widow’s Creek Falls.

Day 6, Thirsty Thursday, promises a delightful excursion aboard the Elkin Vine Line, touring three different wineries while indulging in painting and sipping fine wines.

Day 7, Farm Friday, welcomes artists to paint amidst the charm of a local flower farm or capture the essence of fluffy highland cows and other livestock at Crooked Creek Highlands. The day concludes with the opening reception of In Plein Air, featuring artists selected as the people’s choice favorites from the previous year's festival.

Day 8 culminates at Grassy Creek Winery on Saturday, October 19th, with our Fresh Paint Sale and artist Paint Out. Enjoy food trucks and live music performances throughout the event. Each attendee, including artists and their guests, will have the opportunity to cast one vote in the People's Choice selection. Winners will showcase their plein air artwork at an exhibit during next year's festival.

We thank the Surry County TDA for generously supporting the festival!
