Hello friends,

Summer has officially arrived, bringing longer days, warm evenings, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy all that our region has to offer.

We invite you to make the most of the season by attending our Sunset Movie Series held at some of our area’s favorite wineries. Our second movie of the summer is Raiders of the Lost Ark on June 6 at 9:00 p.m. at Grassy Creek Vineyard—a perfect opportunity to gather with family and friends under the stars. Be sure to mark your calendars for this month’s youth theatre production of Annie Jr. June 5-6, as well as the Foothills Theatre summer musical, Young Frankenstein July 17-19. Both productions showcase the incredible talent and creativity that thrives in our community.

As summer unfolds, we hope you’ll take time to enjoy family and friends, spend time in the great outdoors, and create lasting memories. And amid the activities and adventures, don’t forget to set aside a little time to pursue your own creativity. Whether it’s painting, writing, music, gardening, or simply trying something new, creativity enriches our lives and strengthens our community.

Save the date | October 14–18 | Foothills Plein Air Festival

Artists from across the Southeast will spend the week painting on location throughout Surry, Yadkin, and Wilkes counties—capturing the beauty, character, and stories of the places we call home.

It’s a celebration of art, place, and perspective—and one we look forward to all year.

Foothills School of Violin-Making

Our current semester has wrapped up, and—no surprise—the next one (starting in August) is already full.

Joe will be offering his Summer Violin Intensive for continuing students or violin makers who have an instrument in progress.

Foothills Clayworks

Full clay semesters will return once we’re back in the main facility. In the meantime, our satellite studio is still active, offering open studio time for continuing students.

Traditional Woodworking

Woodworking classes will also resume with the reopening of the main center. The program is built, ready, and just waiting on the building to catch up.

And More on the Way

Once we’re fully back on site, we’re excited to keep expanding.

Glassblowing, metalsmithing, and animation are already in various stages of development—so if you don’t see your dream class yet… give us a minute.

We’re working on it.

In March, thanks to an incredibly generous donation, we paid off our facility note in full!

Which means—we now own the Foothills Arts Center (formerly the Roth YMCA) outright!

Work is continuing on-site as we prepare studios, classrooms, and public spaces for the reopening.

Conversations around a proposed upper floor children’s museum are moving forward, with a board vote on contractual terms approved, our lawyer is now drafting the lease agreement.

The most recent phase of electrical work restored power to about three-quarters of the building. To finish the job, we’re now waiting on a step-down transformer for the basement. It’s currently being built, and is expected to arrive this month. Once that arrives, the remaining work should move quickly.
